Description
With its 200 chalets, the Liège Christmas Village attracts thousands of visitors every year, coming to taste delicious treats and discover unique products along its festive streets.
Far more than just a market, the Christmas Village is a true little community, complete with its aldermen, mayor, and honorary citizens, bringing life to the wooden streets for over a month. For more than 30 years, it has become a must-visit destination during the holiday season. Don’t miss the Ferris wheel, the sledding hill, the photo booths, the famous “Scrieu public,” and the village post office. On Place Cathédrale, the famous Christmas ice rink, surrounded by festive and gourmet chalets, offers fun for both children and adults until January 4th.
Voted “European Capital of Christmas” in 2018, the Christmas Village is part of Liège’s initiative “Liège, City of Christmas,” aiming to make the city the Latin capital of Christmas celebrations. Within this framework, the village collaborates with downtown merchants and numerous other holiday attractions: the Christmas Ice Rink, the Nocturnales of Liège, the Christmas Circus “
Liège en Piste,” and Les Baladins du Miroir with their show “
Soudain la pierre.”
New for this 38th edition:
Village Opéra – the entrance to the Christmas Village
With tram works completed, a beautiful pedestrian esplanade now stretches in front of the Opéra—the perfect entrance to the Liège Christmas Village. Visitors will be welcomed by a carousel, a roasted chestnut cart, a festive gourmet chalet, and Santa’s sleigh. An authentic chalet featuring German and Luxembourgish specialties will stand at the village entrance as an essential culinary stop. Not to be missed: the brand-new, decorated, and illuminated church, housing the stunning Liège puppet nativity scene, the pride of the Village Council.
Pop-up chalets – highlighting local craftsmanship
Temporary chalets, set up in front of major stores along the Artisan Alley, will host rotating local artisans: ceramics, jewelry, candles, decorations, and gourmet handmade products. The perfect opportunity to discover local skills and find unique gifts.
Additionally, the large Christmas Pyramid, inaugurated in 2024, will return, much to the delight of dreamers, young and old, and photographers alike.
