Nature Reserve Aux Roches

The "Aux Roches" nature reserve, located in Chokier, covers an area of 67,03 acres and is one of the jewels of the natural and landscape heritage of the commune of Flémalle and the Liège Meuse.

About fifteen years ago, the nature protection association, Natagora, signed an agreement with the commune of Flémalle concerning the creation of a nature reserve in Chokier.

The region's former limestone quarries provide a refuge for many animal and plant species, some of which are very scarce, such as certain Mediterranean plants only to be encountered here in the Liège basin, at their northern limit of dispersal...

From mid-July to mid-November you can also watch Blackfaces Scottish sheep.

If you would like to discover this Natura 2000 site, the Flémalle Tourist Office offers you various walking itineraries that you can do freely, including: 

- The signposted walk nr 7 (3.60 miles): Starting from the village of Chokier, this walk will take you through different parts of the reserve, passing by the plateau des Trixhes from where you can enjoy stunning scenery. Departure: Chaussée de Chokier in front of the church of Saint Marcellin, 4400 Flémalle.

- The walk "Les Nouvelles Légendes de Chokier" (2.75 miles) make you discover the charming village of Chokier and the nature reserve while listening to their legends thanks to the different QR codes available all along the route. Departure: Saint Marcellin Church, Chaussée de Chokier 84, 4400 Flémalle
