Saint-Nicolas
A successful combination of rehabilitated industrial heritage and biodiversity!
Most of the towns in the region of Liège have a shared history, namely that of mines and the miners. Furthermore, the slag heaps and hills share the same wealth: remarkable biodiversity. Many plant and animal species have found refuge here, sometimes even rare specimens.
Saint-Nicolas has managed to promote this double heritage via a unique initiative: the Maison des Terrils slag heaps museum. This learning centre boasts a vast exhibition display where visitors can have fun discovering a wealth of information on the history of the mines and the slag heaps.
